Pretty Little Liars is an ABC Family network television series based on the Pretty Little Liars series of novels by Sara Shepard. The show premiered on June 8, 2010. The series follows the lives of four girls — Spencer, Hanna, Aria, and Emily — whose clique falls apart after the disappearance of their queen bee, Alison. One year later, they begin receiving messages from someone using the name "A" who threatens to expose their secrets — including long-hidden ones they thought only Alison knew.

Alison, Aria, Hanna, Emily, and Spencer are best friends, and the popular girls at Rosewood High School. During a sleepover party, queen bee Alison mysteriously disappears. The remaining girls drift apart until a year later, when they each begin receiving taunting messages from someone using the name "A" who threatens to reveal secrets that only Alison knew. Alison's body is finally found, and the friends seek to uncover who "A" really is and perhaps finally solve the mystery of her death.

Lucy Hale portrays Aria Montgomery, who moves back to Rosewood with her mother Ella, father Byron, and younger brother Mike after a year's absence in Europe. Aria begins a romance with a man who turns out to be her new English teacher, Ezra Fitz. She immediately receives a message from "A" taunting her about the secret romance. Aria and Ezra struggle with the forbidden nature of their relationship as Aria is tormented by keeping the secret of her father's past affair from her mother. As she decides what to do with the information, she finds that "A" has beaten her to it in a tell-all letter to Ella.

Ashley Benson portrays Hanna Marin, who has taken Alison's place as the most popular girl at Rosewood in Alison's absence. Hanna was previously chubby, but she became slimmer since Alison's disappearance. Now Hanna shoplifts for attention from her absent father. As a result of a misunderstanding with her boyfriend wanting to stay "pure", but Hannah assuming he simply isn't interested, a distraught Hanna crashes his car into a tree on purpose and works at a dentist office to pay off her debt. In the mid-season finale Hanna is hit by a car as she's running to tell the girls who "A" is.

Troian Bellisario portrays Spencer Hastings, whose newly-engaged and condescending sister Melissa moves into the guest house which Spencer had been fixing up for herself. Spencer finds herself increasingly attracted to her sister's fiancé Wren, whom "A" warns Spencer not to kiss or "A" will tell. Spencer and Wren do kiss and are caught by Melissa, who insists that Wren move out. She is also on her school's field hockey team. She starts dating a worker at the country club her family belongs to.Spencer later finds out that her mom had breast cancer and has been hiding it from everyone else.

Shay Mitchell portrays Emily Fields, a competitive swimmer who soon befriends Maya St. Germain, the new resident of Alison's former home. Maya introduces Emily to marijuana, and the girls grow closer. A message from "A" reveals Emily to be curious about her sexuality, and hints that she had kissed Alison in the past. Emily's mother invites Maya to stay for a while, and she and Emily share a room, in which they also share a bed. Emily's boyfriend becomes possessive and almost forces her to have sex with him, but she is saved by Toby. Emily breaks up with her boyfriend and kisses Maya in in a photo booth at a party; someone steals the photograph and makes copies. Emily goes with Toby to Homecoming, much to the surprise of her friends as they believe Toby to be dangerous after reading his therapist's file. Emily doesn't believe her friends, but she starts to have suspicions after Toby corners her in the science lab and she tries to escape from him, but falls while running and gets knocked out. Toby drives her to the hospital, leaves her there, and then disappears. In the 8th episode, she is ready to give a relationship with Maya a try as she becomes more open with her feelings.

Sasha Pieterse portrays Alison DiLaurentis the former leader of Rosewood's premiere clique. Ruling the group with an iron fist, the vicious but charismatic Alison had gone missing during a slumber party; a year later, her disappearance is still unsolved. When Aria, Hanna, Spencer, and Emily begin receiving threatening messages from "A" reminding them of their darkest secrets, they suspect that "A" is Alison whose body is soon discovered buried in her former backyard. She is known to have always got what she wanted, often by very unethical means. The girls always told Alison their secrets, but she never shared anything with them.

Before I couldn't know that Holly plays Ella I loved the Charakter Aria.. and I was so happy when I got to know, Holly is playing her Mum.

I really hope the show will be so successful like Charmed, because it's great!

I hope it is too! I actually only started watching bc i knew Holly was in it, but its a great show and now i cant get enough xD
